Golfing in Cabo

Cabo San Lucas is home to some of the leading golf courses of North America. In fact, golf is the second most popular attraction in Cabo. The best golf is to be had along the Corridor. Here, there are three golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus — the Palmilla, El Dorado, and Cabo del Sol. Additionally, there are courses designed by Robert Trent Jones II, Tom Fazio, and Tom Weiskopf. Roy Dye desined the Cabo San Lucas Country Club. In many of the golf courses the Sea of Cortés is visible, offering panoramic ocean views.

The average Cabo green fee is around US$250. Discounted rates are available beginning at 2 p.m. Green fees in Cabo may change depending on the travel season and day of week.

Palmilla

This golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1992, features 27 holes and is located at the One&Only Palmilla. Here, lush greenery fills the scene thanks to gray water irrigation. Ocean views can be seen from nearly every hole with the 17th and 18th holes being the most spectacular for the finish. Callaway golf clubs may be rented for US$50 plus tax. Green fees go from US$209-$269 per 18 holes.

Cabo Real

The Cabo Real Golf Course’s 18 holes span over 7,000 yards of rich Cabo landscape. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, it is located about midway between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Some of the holes even have ocean views. Green fees go from US$260-$280 for 18 holes and US$180 for 9. This includes tax, golf cart use, club service, practice facilities, and bottled water. A 10 percent discount is available if you’re staying at the Meliá Cabo Real, Westin Los cabos, or Casa del Mar. King Cobra golf clubs may be rented for US$50.

El Dorado Golf Club

This is the second golf course in the Cabo Real development. Five of its 18 holes overlook the Sea of Cortés with six being beside four pristine lakes. The El Dorado Golf Club is designed by Nicklaus and offers 7,050 yards of pure fun. Green fees are between US$260 and $280 with the same amenities as you’d find in the Cabo Real Golf Course.

Cabo San Lucas Country Club

Located less than a mile away from downtown Cabo San Lucas, this 18-hole course designed by Roy Dye boasts terrific views of Land’s End and the Cabo Bay. It is situated in the midst of natural desert and mountainous terrain. This 745-acre Cabo golf course also has seven lakes to make your experience even more enjoyable. Taylor-Made rental golf clubs are available for $49. Despite all the beauty of this golf course, green fees here are among the lowest in Cabo from just US$95-$169 (and that includes the cart).

Cabo del Sol

The Cabo del Sol consists of two golf courses ‑ an ocean and a desert one. The ocean course being designed by Jack Nicklaus and the desert course by Tom Weiskopf. The one designed by Nicklaus was rated among the top 10 public golf courses in the world by Golf Digest. It features seven holes (of 18) with spectacular ocean views. 10 percent discounts are available for those staying at the Sheraton and Fiesta Americana resorts. Otherwise, green fees begin at US$350 for the ocean course and US$220 for the desert course. Callaway clubs are available for rent at US$55 and rest assured, all the usual golf course amenities you’d expect in Cabo are included.
