Lovers Beach

By Charly Torosian

The first thing that comes to mind when hearing the words Lovers Beach may be a quiet, romantic place where you’d have the whole beach to yourself and a special someone to share it with. This is not exactly the real deal. That aside, Lovers Beach is, however, a fun place for everyone to visit. In fact, we recommend coming here at least once in your trip to Cabo San Lucas. Due to its natural setting, there aren’t any restrooms or showers here. Don’t forget to pack along sunscreen because it gets pretty hot during the day, and there are no shades provided as in other Cabo beaches.

Lovers Beach

Lovers Beach is a fun place for everyone to visit,
not just ‘lovers.’

Though it’s not quite the secluded and quiet beach you may have thought it to be, you will find the geography of Lovers Beach very appealing all around. Neptune’s Finger, a large rock that protrudes out of the sea, can be seen from this beach. A five minute walk west from Lovers Beach will take you to Divorce Beach. It probably got this name because of its strong rip currents and rough waves that hit the shore here. Divorce Beach is not safe for swimming in, but it does feel more secluded than its neighbor; and those staying later than most folks can get a view of the sun setting in the Pacific.

You won’t be able to get to Lovers Beach by car or by foot. Unless you’re an experienced rock climber, a water taxi ride from Médano Beach or the marina is your best bet. Fares average about $10 US per person round-trip for a tour in the glass-bottomed boat. They’ll first tour Land’s End so you can see the fish underneath, and then they’ll take you near El Arco, Cabo’s famous arch (not to mention a good opportunity for nice photos) before dropping you off at the beach. Engine failures happen more often than you’d think, but sometimes they can be resolved within minutes if you have a good driver. Surprisingly, we saw more fish while looking directly through the surface of the water than through the glass bottom. This is possible thanks to the exceptionally clear water around the Lovers Beach area. Though snorkeling is commonly done here, the surf is not as calm as in Chileno Beach for the activity.

An additional way to get to Lovers Beach is by renting a kayak on Médano Beach and paddling by the rock formations. The paddle should take around 40 minutes each way, but time will fly, and you’ll be there before you know it. Refer to our Cabo Tours & Activities page for more information on kayaking in Cabo.
